It is more a question of risk/probabilities of wrong diagnosis, adequate sampling and the standard of care in the community which has some medicolegal implications. There is no reason to reexcise a completeley removed nevus. However, if there is a small risk that the lesion is a melanoma or it is not adequately sampled a recommendation for a reexcision is a reasonable one. Anatomical context will dictate the margin. 0.3 to 0.5 mm is a reasonable albert unnecessary margin in the buttocs but not on the nose. Watch my lecture on Thining in Bets in Dermpedia.

Welcome Jerad. I am looking forward to working with you to make Dermpedia more accessible to trainees and junior attendees worldwide. My natural interests are exploring the boundaries of dermpath and sharing experience. You are the best and most dedicated educator of residents and fellows. I will do my best to accomodate you and your students on Dermpedia Academy. This co-incides with my plans for Dermpedia to evolve into a world-wide digital-first dermatopathology professional society.
